The Company was formed and capitalized in 1894. In 1911, the Company (then named Ben Hur Life) constructed its first office building (picture to the left) to house its growing operation in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The Company operated for many years in this building. In the mid to late 1990's, the Company made a decision to change its name to USA Life One and relocate its personnel to Indianapolis, Indiana. The primary reason for the relocation was to more easily recruit, hire and retain qualified management and administrative personnel. Most people don't realize that Indianapolis is considered a major Insurance hub with several very large commercial carriers domiciled and operating in the city. While the name Ben Hur Life had some historical significance (General Lew Wallace, who wrote the book Ben Hur, was a founding Board of Director of the Company), its relevancy in a modern economic operating environment was lacking. Resultingly, the name change provided the Company with a broader, more national appeal and with the move to a large city, the Company's strategic scope naturally changed as well.
Current day, USA Life One focuses on speciality market niches with respect to individual insurance efforts, capital relief (Reinsurance) for other insurance companies and engages in Merger and Acquisition activities.
